Bill Monahan

Mr. William “Bill” Monahan of Aiton Road, Sussex East passed away at the Sussex Health Centre on January 14, 2010 in his 95th year. Born in Sussex on June 7, 1915, he was the son of the late Ambrose and Catherine (Durham) Monahan.

He served during WWII in the Canadian Army. He farmed most of  his life in Cassidy Lake and was a meat cutter at Miller’s Meat and Grocery on Broad Street. Bill was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Sussex Branch #20 and St. Francis Roman Catholic Church.  

Bill was predeceased by his wife Roberta (McLong) Monahan who passed away April 29th, 1967 and by his second wife Grace (Carten) Monahan who passed away October 1st, 2005.

Bill is survived by his son, Murray and his wife Anita of Sussex, his brother, Raymond and his wife Betty of Sussex, his sister, Peggy Brown and her husband George of Apohaqui; three grandchildren: Donald and Anick (Martin) Monahan of Mascouche, Quebec, Allen Monahan and his wife Tina of Cassidy Lake, Sean Monahan at home; four great grand children; Jonathan, Megane, Emerson and Marley Monahan; his special God child Joan Brown, "His" girl Gladys (Pollock) Keith, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Bill was also predeceased by two brothers, Leonard and Ambrose and four sisters: Irene Monahan, Kathleen Cummings, Nellie Hourihan and Grace Mercer.
Arrangements are entrusted to the care of Wallace Funeral Home, 34 Sunnyside Drive, Sussex, (506-433-1176), where visitation will be held on Sunday 2-4 and 7-9pm.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated from St. Francis Xavier Church on Monday, January 18, 2010 at 10:00 am. There will be a time of fellowship with the family in the Church Hall immediately following the Mass.
The interment will take place at Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Cemetery in the spring.
