Obituary of Wayne Murphy

It is with sadness that we announce the death of Wayne Chester Murphy of Sussex which occurred at the Sussex Health Centre on Friday, August 23, 2019 at the age of 72.  He was born on August 9, 1947, a son of the late Robert Murphy and Ida Mae (Mahood) Cooper and husband of Karen (Evans) Murphy.

Wayne was a man of many talents and interests. From the many jobs he had, driving a garbage truck in Toronto, Working at a particle board factory in Slave Lake, Alberta to driving taxi in Sussex, he was always looking ahead at the next adventure.

Service was his real passion. He took part in many mission trips, building schools and churches and wanting a better life for people he didn't know. He travelled to Haiti, Guetamala, Macon Georgia, Ukraine, Mozambique, and New Orleans. During one of his trips to Ukraine, he met a young girl who had an amazing talent in music. Wayne made the decision that he wanted to help her. For many years he sent money every month to pay for her music lessons. Onya is now grown and a renowned pianist and instructor of music to her own students.

His work in the community was never ending. He worked many hours on the Salvation Army kettle, picking up Banana boxes for the food boxes and generally doing any handy man job asked of him.

The love of his life, Karen Ann, was by his side everyday, laughing and enjoying life together. He had no children of his own, but was everyone's favorite Uncle.

Wayne would leave home on his bicycle and he would be spotted everywhere around Kings County. Karen never knew if he would get home for supper, but he was always ready for a cup of coffee and a conversation, but mostly a joke or two.

He will live on in the heart of his wife, Karen (Evans) Murphy; brother Rick (Kelly) Cooper of Fort Saskatchewan, AB; sisters: Wendy (Kevin) Virtue of Wards Creek, NB, Joanne (Garry) Campbell of Miramichi, as well as several nieces and nephews.  Besides his parents, Wayne was also predeceased by his step-father Ernie Cooper.

Arrangements are entrusted to the care of Wallace Funeral Home, 34 Sunnyside Drive, Sussex NB (506-433-1176) from where visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 27, 2019 from 6 to 8PM.  A Celebration of Wayne’s life will be held from the Salvation Army Church, 79 Main Street, Sussex on Wednesday, August 28, 2019 at 2:00PM.
