Obituary of Elizabeth Marguerite MacKay

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Elizabeth Marguerite MacKay (Holder) wife of Eldon Mackay which occurred on Friday, January 3, 2020 at the Sussex Health Centre. Born in Sussex, NB on April 1, 1947, she was the daughter of the late Leslie and Kathleen (Hayward) Holder. Nothing was more important to Elizabeth than her family. She adored her children and grandchildren and loved Sunday dinners at Ian’s every week. She watched her oldest grandchildren grow up in the rink and happily cheered them on from the cold bleachers rarely missing a game. One of her happy places was most definitely at the Holder haven in Pearsonville. She made a countless amount of pies for the many potlucks the family enjoyed together. After the love of her family, Elizabeth’s next love was most likely the Toronto Blue Jay’s. Many hours were spent cheering on (and sometimes cursing) her favorite team. It was not uncommon that while visiting one of her kids, she would look at the clock and tell you she needed to leave to catch the game, up she would get, and out the door she would go. Elizabeth also had a deep love for God and her faith. She was a member of many organizations throughout the years. Elizabeth is survived by her loving husband Eldon, of 54 years; Her daughters Brenda MacKay of Saint John, Cathy (Winston) MacKay of Cambridge Narrows; sons Bradley (Jennifer) MacKay of Sussex, and Ian (Heather) MacKay of Sussex; grandchildren Alexie (Mitch) Watson, Ethan Richardson, Sara Mackay, Carter Mackay, Liam MacKay, Brennan MacKay, Elena MacKay; Brothers Stewart (Margaret) Holder of Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta, George (Patricia) Holder of Pearsonville NB; Sisters Louise (David) Fyffe of Riverview NB, Marion Holder of Pearsonville, Brother in Law Jim Green of Lower Millstream; as well as many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, her sister Linda Green and brother Gilbert Holder. The family would like to extend thanks to the nursing staff of the Sussex Health Center whose compassionate care of everyone involved is greatly appreciated, as well as Elizabeth’s niece Jackie Holder who was very special to her and offered her much comfort during her last days. Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Wallace Funeral Home, 34 Sunnyside Drive, Sussex, (506-433-1176) from where visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 7, 2020 from 1-3 and 6-8pm. A Celebration of Elizabeth’s life will be held on Wednesday, January 8, 2020 at Woodland United Church (696 Pearsonville Rd, Pearsonville, NB E5P 1S9) at 11:00am. There will be a private family interment held in the spring. Donations in memory of Elizabeth, may be made to the Sussex Health Centre Palliative Care Unit.
