Obituary of Ethel Sleep

It is with heavy hearts the family of Ethel Muriel (Paterson) Sleep announce her passing on August 31st,2020 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. She passed one day shy of her 100th birthday. Ethel was born September 1st, 1920. The daughter of Robert and Mary Paterson of Cannan, NB and a devoted wife (the Bride) to Arnold William Sleep for more than 75 years. Arnold predeceased her December 18th, 2013. Ethel adored her children and is survived by Ashley Sleep (Theresa) and Sandra Trecartin. She was predeceased by four children. Wayne (late Anne) and three infants: Ina Maxine, Myrna and Eugene. Ethel was a cherished Grandmother to Timothy and Angela Trecartin, Yolanda Mullett (late Gary), Leah Mercer, Arnold Paul Sleep, Donald Anderson (Wendy) and Marilyn Wynn (Kevan) She was also a dearly loved Great and Great Great grandmother. Ethel was a member of the former LOBA and Coles Island Senior Citizens Club. She was the clubs last surviving charter member. In her early years of marriage Ethel would accompany her husband working as the cook in lumber and sawmill camps. Throughout her life she worked as a baker and cooked in various restaurants. She was a hair stylist by trade, but cooking was her greatest passion. She loved to feed her family and friends. There was always a place at Ethel’s table. A treasured Aunt to several nieces and nephews. Ethel was the last surviving member of her family. She was predeceased by 3 brothers and 8 sisters. Arrangements are entrusted to the care of Wallace Funeral Home, 34 Sunnyside Drive, Sussex, NB (506-433-1176) At Ethel’s request no visitation will be held. A celebration of Ethel’s life will be held from Coles Island Cemetery on Friday, September 4, 2020 at 1:00pm. Donations in Ethel’s memory can be made to the Sussex Community Church (Salvation Army) or the charity of the donor’s choice.
