Obituary of Morris Abram Chown

It is with heavy hearts the family would like to announce the passing of Morris Chown, 82, of Roachville, which occurred on December 10, 2020 at the Sussex Health Center. Born on June 17, 1938, in Keirstead Mountain, he was a son to the late Myles and Mable (Parlee) Chown.

Morris was born a rambunctious curly haired tyke. Ever enjoying the company of his siblings and having many stories to share from childhood years. The kids could often be found wearing the legs off the kitchen chairs pushing them around the floor while learning to walk, playing cowboys and indians and mucking around outside. While working for his father's construction company Morris would travel to Miramichi to build the Blackville School. After spending some time off in the evening, he would meet the love of his life Helen Walls on a blind date. They were married August 1, 1959 and had two children, Pamela and Kenneth.

Morris continued working for his father's company as they went on to build many churches, homes, schools and even the first T-bar lift at Poley Mountain. In 1970 Morris created his own contracting company, New Way Contractors. He later went to work for the New Brunswick government as Maintenance Supervisor for District 18 until he later retired in 1996.

Morris and Helen loved spending time with family and friends throughout the years. They could often be found playing games, camping, vacationing or even just going over to someone's house to lend a hand.

They enjoyed spending many wonderful winters at their home in Brookesville Florida. Even after being diagnosed with Parkinson's in 2014 Morris would continue to travel, construct, do mechanic work and more. Always willing to use his skills to serve others.

Morris was a devout Christian he regularly attended the Kierstead Mountain Baptist Church with his family and was later baptised in the Millstream river. He would later go on to be a founding member of Faith Bible Baptist Fellowship in 1978. Morris was a wonderful husband, father and friend. He loved his children and grand children with all he had. He was stern, but just and loving. He felt blessed having three great grandchildren and would always light up whenever they were near.

Morris is survived by his loving wife, Helen (Walls) Chown of Roachville; his son, Kenneth (Tammy) Chown of Roachville; his daughter Pam Masten of Roachville; his brothers: Murton Chown of Berwick, James (Edna) Chown of Sussex, Leonard (Diane) Chown of Ontario and Bev (Rosemary) Chown of Jemseg; his sister, Sheila (John) Warren of Gibbon Mountain; grandchildren: Rebekah Masten, Rachel Masten, Jared Chown and Keri Rothenberg; his great grandchildren: Autumn Guillemette, Ezekiel McLaughlin and Flynn Rothenberg.

Besides his parents, Morris was predeceased by his brothers, Myles Chown and Gary Chown; as well as his sister Jeanette Chown.

Arrangements are entrusted to the care of Wallace Funeral Home, 34 Sunnyside Drive, Sussex, NB (506-433-1176) from where visitation will be held on Tuesday, December 15, 2020 from 2:00pm-4:00pm and 6:00pm-8:00pm.
