Obituary of Etta Della Lewis

Mrs. Etta Della Lewis was born in Moncton, NB on July 31, 1940; she was the daughter of the late James Robert and Elizabeth Prudence (Killam) Bunnell and the wife of the late Albert George Lewis who passed away in 2016.

Etta grew up on the farm and did all the barn work. She would milk the cows before school and again at night when she returned home. It was believed that that was the reason she had such a strong handshake and carried the title of Tug-o-war Champion. She was also known for her love of cards and playing crib – something that she passed down to her children.

She greatly enjoyed cooking, reading, gardening, music and caring for her animals big and small. She had a special love of birds, but her passion was anything and everything horses.

Etta loved her family and would do anything for any of them, she enjoyed any moment spent with them.

She will live on in the hearts of her children: James Lewis and his wife Pam of Upperton, Merle Lewis and his wife Mary of Berwick, Mike Lewis and his wife Donna of Saskatchewan, Juanita Drane and her husband Chris, Dale Lewis and Wanda Hodgin of Newline, Darren Lewis of Upper Wards Creek, Elizabeth Irvine and her husband Shawn of Sussex, Alison Smith and her husband Tom of Upper Wards Creek and Traci Rees and her husband John of Newtown; her foster daughter, Leona “Lulu” McKay and her husband Danny of Newline; her sisters: Irma Young of Harcourt and Miriam Mitchell and her husband Wilbur of Alberta; her grandchildren: Megan, Mitchell, Makailah, Dennis (Ashley), Nicole (Jeremy), Rebecca, Callie (Scott), Christine (Russell), Robin, Jeremy (Caitlyn), Kerri-Anne (Brody), Michael (Michelle), Caitlyn (Dan), Cassidy, Samantha (Ben), Stephanie, Ryan, Shawn-Michael (Kelsey), Jacob (Jazmine), Kira (Daniel), Maranda, Bella, Dean and Lincoln; her great grandchildren: Isabella, Blair, Paige, Jack, Chloe, Seth, Lily, Ava, Naveah, Maylee, Skylar, Daytin, Hazel, Renzo, Rocs, Brianna, Olivia, Erica, Austin, Glendon, Naomi, Amelia, Aria, Bailey, Brayden, Jayden, Willow, Lexis, Traeh, Kylie, Nathan and Germaine; her best friend, Veronica Smith; her special caregivers: Caitlyn, Melanie, Michelle and Christine; as well as several nieces and nephews.

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Etta Lewis announce her passing on June 14, 2021, at the Sussex Health Center at the age of 80.

Along with her parents and her husband, she is predeceased by her infant daughter, Pamela and by her siblings: Carolyn Mitchell, Robert Bunnell, Elsie Whalen and Glendon Bunnell.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Wallace Funeral Home, 34 Sunnyside Drive, Sussex, NB (506-433-1176) from where visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 22, 2021, from 1-3 and 6-8pm.  A Celebration of Etta’s life will be held from Wallace Community Chapel.
