Obituary of Walter Colpitts Matthew Kaye

The death of Walter Colpitts Matthew Kaye of Sussex occurred at his residence on October 11, 2004. Born in Sussex, Walter was a son of the late M. Colpitts and Georgie (Reid) Kaye. Walter is survived by his wife of 58 years Jean (McQuinn) Kaye and their family; Barbara J. Dodds (Tony) of Saint John, Paul Kaye (Alexa) of Scotchtown, Ronald Kaye of Sussex, David Kaye (Sharon) of Parlee Brook, Harold Kaye (Donna) of Sussex, Douglas Kaye (Jennifer) of Smiths Creek, Bryant Brown (Beth) of Picadilly, grandchildren Liana Vogelsang, Angela, Holly and Kristopher Kaye, Karey Howe, Paula Codling, Kizzy Kaye, Matthew and Gregory Kaye, Teresa Doyle, Wesley and Andrew Kaye. Step grandchildren: Mark Butler and Susan (Butler) king. Great grandchildren: Jack and Joey Vogelsang, Barrett Howe, Ryan Codling, Brian Kaye, Brianne and Kendra Doyle. Step great grandchildren: Malcolm and Jordan, Jillian, Stephen, Brandon, Cameron and Victoria, a sister Marjorie Pagett of Sussex, sister-in-laws Jean and Glenna Kaye and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Walter was predeceased by a sister Doris Hoyt and brothers Elvin, Wesley, Roy and William Kaye. Walter attended school in Sussex and graduated from Sussex High School in 1937. Following graduation he worked for his father, Colpitts Kaye, in lumber mills and then drove truck for a time. He hauled milk, logs and lumber around the southern part of the province. Walter then became a dairy farmer. While farming he was also involved with the milk producers association and became president of the Sussex and area Milk Producers Association. He then worked in service to the public at Dave's Restaurant, and at Kaye's Korner Store in the area. He also worked for several years with Brown's Paving. Walter was a life long member of the St. Paul's United Church. He was a past member of Session, and served on the Board of Trustees. Walter was a Charter Member of the Sussex Golden K. He supported the Golden K with both his time and his finances. He enjoyed his time serving on various committees, as secretary, and especially as fines master. In later years Walter's greatest enjoyment was his church and Sussex Golden K. He seldom missed either. The family will receive visitors at the Sussex Select Community Funeral Home, 21 Aiton Road Sussex (506-433-2133) on Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. The funeral service will be held on Thursday October 14, 2004 at 2:00 PM at St. Paul's United Church, Sussex with Reverend Philip Dallimore officiating. Interment will be at Pioneer Cemetery, Penobsquis. As expressions of sympathy donations made to St. Paul's United Church or the charity of the donor's choice would be appreciated by the family.
