Obituary of Shirley Roberta Simpson

Shirley Roberta Simpson (Thompson) entered into rest at the Sussex Health Centre in her 93rd year on August 10th, surrounded by her loving family.

Shirley is survived by her two sons, Andrew (Debra) of Wards Creek and Douglas (Kimberly) of Sussex Corner; four grandchildren - Amanda (Nathan), Mary Anne (Eric), Olivia, and Jessica. She is also survived by her two sisters - Winnifred Cooper of Gondola Point and Betty Brown of Minnesota, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Predeceased by the love of her life, Richard (Dick); five siblings - Mildred Griece, Gladys Duplessis, Margaret Scott, Jean Kilpatrick, and Walter Thompson; and her parents, Brunswick and Georgina (Rogers) Thompson.

Shirley was born on May 3, 1929, in Barnesville, NB. She graduated as a registered nurse from the Saint John General Hospital in 1951. After being high school sweethearts, Shirley and Dick were married and moved to Sussex as a young couple. She was a member of I.O.D.E for over 50 years and a member of the Trinity Anglican Church for over 60 years. Shirley retired from Dr. Bryant’s practice as a professional nurse after 35 years.

In her retirement, Shirley made lasting memories by travelling with Dick, spending summers at the pool with her grandchildren, enjoying time at Pleasant Lake with family, playing in bridge clubs, hosting parties, and filling her social calendar.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Wallace Funeral Home.  A Celebration of Shirley’s life will be held at Trinity Anglican Church 853 Main St, Sussex, NB, on Sunday, August 14th, 2022, at 2:00 pm. Interment will follow at Trinity Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Sussex Health Centre. Condolences to the family and donations may be made through WallaceFuneralHome.com
