Obituary of Alice Weldon

Miss Alice May Weldon of 50 Pleasant Ave. Sussex, NB, passed away at her residence on January 4, 2006 at the age of 88. Born in Penobsquis, NB on November 22, 1917, she was the daughter of the late Herbert and Annie (Morey) Weldon. Alice is survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins and predeceased by her sister Kathleen McLeod. She will also be fondly remembered by her care givers and her many friends. She attended the Penobsquis school, and was a member of the Penobsquis United Baptist transferring her membership to the Sussex United Baptist Church in 1991. Following graduation from school Alice worked on the MacIntyre farm for a number of years, then at the Wallace Manufacturing Company until she enlisted in 1942 in the Army. She served overseas during WWII with the Canadian Womens Army Corps. She took a Clerk's course, and serving as a clerk in Ontario, Quebec City and Fredericton. Following an injury to her knee, she was discharged in 1944. Alice took a business course in Moncton, and then was employed for 29 years with the Unemployment Insurance Commission. During retirement she returned to her family home in Penobsquis and wrote social notes for the Kings County Record. In 1982, she and her late sister Kay sold the family home and moved to Sussex. Alice was a faithful member of the Legion, and a devout Christian. She was much loved and had many friends across Canada and USA as well as at home with whom she kept in touch, some daily although confined to a wheel chair in later life. She was a joy to visit, always with stories of long ago. She had an excellent memory. She also loved music as well as card games, and she was exceptionally generous. She was a member of the Sussex United Baptist Church and the WMS. As well as the Penobsquis Seniors and the Royal Canadian Legion Sussex Branch #20. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Arrangements are entrusted to the care of Wallace Funeral Home, 34 Sunnyside Drive, Sussex, (506-433-1176). Visitation will be held at the Sussex United Baptist Church on Friday from 2-4pm.The Royal Canadian Legion Sussex Branch # 20 will hold a tribute on Friday at 4:00pm. The Funeral Service will be from Sussex United Baptist Church on Saturday, January 7, 2006 at 11:00 am. The interment will take place at Pioneer Cemetery in the spring. As an expression of sympathy donations made to the Danny and Jessica Angel Foundation or to the memorial of the donor's choice would be appreciated by the family.
