Obituary of Annie Akerley

Mrs. Annie Elizabeth Akerley of Kiwanis Nursing Home formerly of Sunnyside Dr, Sussex, NB passed away at her residence on February 3, 2005 at the age of 89. Annie was the daughter of the late Samuel and Miriam (Taylor) Stewart and the beloved wife of the late Ira Akerley who passed away in 2001. Annie is survived by 2 sisters-in-law; Pauline Stewart of Ottawa, Thelma Stewart of Saint John, as well as several nieces and nephews. Annie was last surviving member of her immediate family. She was predeceased by her sisters Flora Beach, Vivian Beach, Evelina Keith and by 7 brothers; Arnold, Arthur, Percy, Eldon, William, Elmer and Charles Stewart. Annie received a war emergency teacher's licence and taught school for the duration of WWII. Annie and her husband Ira owned and operated a volkswagon dealership, Sussex Motors, where she was Receptionist and Book keeper until their retirement in 1973. She was a life member of the Coles Island UCW. Annie enjoyed music, playing the fiddle and piano. She was happy wherever there was music. She and her family played for dances when she was a teenager. They were known as ' The Stewart Fiddlers' Annie enjoyed the numerous musical family get together with her brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews and friends entertaining at home or visiting. Arrangements are entrusted to the care of Wallace Funeral Home, 34 Sunnyside Drive, Sussex, (506-433-1176), with visitation on Saturday 2-4, 7-9 pm. The Funeral Service will be held from Wallace Memorial Chapel on Sunday, February 6, 2005 at 2:00 pm. The interment will take place in Midland Cemetery in the spring.
