Obituary of Donald Reicker

Mr. Donald Borden Reicker of 39 St. George Street Sussex, NB, passed away at Sussex Health Centre on January 15, 2005 at the age of 69. Born in Saint John, NB on November 22, 1935, he was the son of the late Bordon and Marie Bridget (Morrissey) Reicker. Don is survived by Janet (Fox) his beloved wife of 45 years, 4 daughters; Elizabeth MacIntosh and her husband Alan of New Glasgow, NS, Patricia Reicker and Mike Dunfield of Sussex, Jennifer Reicker of Sussex, Judy Reicker-Thede and her husband Jason of Ajax, Ontario, his sister, Lois Howe and her husband Ross of Fredericton, his brother, Wayne of Fredericton, 6 grandchildren: Shannon, Lauren, Shaun MacIntosh, Jenna, Joseph and Logan Dunfield, as well as several nieces and nephews He graduated from Welsford High School in 1952. He was the youngest person to attend UNB age 15, where he graduated in 1955 with his B.A. Arts, Ed. and his masters in Education. During his University years Don worked during the summers with the Militia and was stationed in Europe. He continued with the 8th Hussars in Sussex. Prior to coming to Sussex in 1962 he was principal of Port Cartier Protestant School for 3 years. In 1964, he became Principal at Sussex High School from where he retired in 1991 after 35 years. He was acting district superintendent for Bill Chandler 1971-72. Don was a member of the Retired New Brunswick Teachers Association. He was a Chartered Member and was Chairman of the Building Committee and past president of Sussex Golf and Curling Club. He was Past President of the Sussex Figure Skating Club and was an accountant at the Figure Skating competitions, he volunteered for income tax clinic for seniors, coached curling for the middle and junior High school, was a member of the Monday and Wednesday Bridge Club, a member of the Senior Men's Curling Club, and a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Sussex Branch # 20. Arrangements are entrusted to the care of Wallace Funeral Home, 34 Sunnyside Drive, Sussex, (506-433-1176), where visitation will be held on Monday evening from 7-9 pm, and Tuesday 2-4, 7-9 pm. The Royal Canadian Legion Sussex Branch # 20 will hold a tribute Tuesday evening at 7:00 pm The Funeral Service will be from St. Paul's United Church on Wednesday, January 19th, 2005 at 11:00 am, with Rev. Philip Dallimore officiating, followed by a time of fellowship with the family in the fellowship hall. As an expression of sympathy donations made to the Donald B. Reicker scholarship fund or to the St. Paul's United Church would be appreciated by the family. A private family interment will take place at Bayview Cemetery, Hatfield Point, NB in the spring.
