Obituary of Margery Hetherington

Margery was born on November 2, 1931 in Johnston Parish. She was the daughter was the late Beecher and Dolli (Smith) Perry and the wife of the Robert Hetherington, who passed away in 2001. Margery was the sixth of eight children. Growing up on a farm, she acquired her work ethic from her parents. Perhaps her aspiration to become a teacher began in early life. Family members report that she used to "preach" and teach her various pets as she tended her hens and foxes in the early years. Margery diligently worked to earn money to board with a family at Coles Island and attend high school there as none was available in Codys. She lived most of her life in Codys and literally married the "boy next door", Robert Perry Hetherington, on November 10, 1949 after he returned from overseas following the second world war. Margery attended Teacher's College in Fredericton and taught in several one-roomed schools in the area; including: Coles Island, Hammtown, Salmon Creek, Narrows and finally the Cambridge-Narrows Elementary School where she became principal for 28 years. She retired in 1986. Margery was very active in her community. She was the Codys United Baptist Sunday School Superintendent for several years as well as a Sunday School teacher. She served on several committees at the Church- Cemetery Committee, Finance Committee, Parsonage Committee, Missionary Society, Ladies Aid as well as President and Treasurer at the Cody's Women's Institute. Margery was a perfectionist. Her precise attention to detail was reflected in her colorful annual gardens and her picturesque property. She was a wonderful cook and well known for her Virginia Cake. She leaves to mourn, her sisters: Gertrude MacDonald of Quispamsis; Myrtle and Russell Dykeman of Sussex Corner; her brother, George Perry and his wife Mary of Codys; her sisters-in-law: Grace Hetherington of Fredericton and Mary Hetherington of Codys; her chosen grandchildren: Margery Bethany and Jeremy Kennedy, Brianna and Jackson Dean, Robert and Stephanie Crouch, and Madison and Michael Robert; numerous precious nephews and nieces and their families; as well as her special friends: Vera Bent of Sussex and Winnie Crouch of Codys. Mrs. Margery Dean (Perry) Hetherington of Codys went to be with our Lord on Sunday, March 23, 2014. She was predeceased by her husband, Robert Hetherington; her brothers: Judson, Freeman and Elisha, as well as her sister Levolia Arrangements are entrusted to Wallace Funeral Home of Sussex 506-433-1176. By Margery's request, there will be no formal visitation or funeral service. For those who wish, donations may be made in her memory to Codys Baptist Church or Codys WI. www.wallacefuneralhome.com
