Mrs. Helen Beedie Hastings, of Birch Haven Special Care Home, Picadilly, NB passed away at Sussex Health Centre on June 16, 2002. Born in Laprairie Quebec on November 19, 1914, she was the daughter of the late George and Elizabeth (Beedie) Gibson. She was the beloved wife of the late Alexander Hastings who passed away in 1992. Helen is survived by 2 daughters Gloria Wynter and her husband Jim of Sussex and Judy Docherty and her husband Jim of Burlington, Ont, her sister Elizabeth Young of Montreal, 4 grandchildren Keri Walker of Sussex, Tia Forsythe and her husband Mark of Ottawa, Andrew Wynter and his wife Beth of Moncton, Tracy Herod and her husband Craig of Burlington, Ont., 3 great grandchildren Liam, Anna, Alex, several nieces and nephews. Helen was predeceased by 2 brothers George and Doug Gibson . While living in Quebec, Helen spent many years volunteering at the Moore Senior Citizens Home. She loved music, especially Frank Sinatra, bowling and spending time with family and friends. Her life was centered around her family; she was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. For her grandchildren, each one has early memories of waking up each morning of Nana's visit and crawling in bed with her at 6am with an armful of books. Nana would keep reading until the very last book was read. Helen was a passionate Montreal Canadians fan and cheered them on to many a Stanley Cup.
