Obituary of Irene Friars

Irene Jessie Friars of Winter Street, Sussex, passed away at her residence on May 17, 2002. Born in Millbrook, NB on August 28, 1916, she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Jessie (Orr) Proctor. Irene was the beloved wife of the late Frank B. Friars who passed away in 1990 and is survived by her daughters, Linda Chappell and her husband Arnold of Charlottetown, Pat Watters and her husband Jim of Sussex, her step-daughter Glenn Wallace and her husband Mac of Saint John, her sisters Jennie Buchanan and Dorothy Doncaster both of Sussex Corner, 7 grandchildren, Michelle, Dan, Jim, Jennifer, Cindy, Melanie and Michael, 8 great grandchildren Hannah, Keegan, Deghlan, Jamie, Jessie, Nicolas, Dylan and Cassandra, several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by 2 sisters Alice and Effie, 5 brothers William, Joe, Bert, Arthur and Herb. Irene told of many happy times with her nine brothers & sisters at home & the get-togethers at neighbouring farms. Moving to Sussex as a young woman, Irene made many friendships, worked for Bradley's Jewellery store & developed a great love of jewellery. Irene Jessie Friars In 1944 she married Frank Friars & became a full-time mother. Over the years Irene enjoyed collecting antiques, gardening, travelling & her cottage at Point du Chene. When the Sussex Curling Club was established Irene became an active member, waiting enthusiastically for the seasons to begin. With her family she played many games but her passion was 45's, wherever there was a card party she was game to go...she loved to socialize. Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Wallace Funeral Home, 34 Sunnyside Drive, Sussex, (506-433-1176), where the family will be receiving relatives and friends on Sunday 2-4, 7-9. The Funeral Service will be held from Trinity Anglican Church on Monday, May 20, 2002 at 2:00 pm, with Rev. David Barrett officiating. Interment at Trinity Cemetery. Remembrances to the Alzheimer Society of Canada or the charity of the donor's choice would be appreciated by the family.
