Obituary of Myrtle Boyd

Born September 17, 1905 at Northrup Settlement, Kings County, NB, she was the sixth child born to John and Elvira (Smith) Darling. She went to school at Pleasant Ridge School. Married Arthur Andrew Boyd, July 9, 1924, at her parent's home at Pleasant Ridge. They moved to the Boston area in Massachusetts in 1925, believing their quality of live and livelihood would be better there in the USA than in the hard times of Maritime Canada. At the persuasion of Arthur's relatives who had move to that area earlier. Pooled their work talents working as a couple on ?. Big farms!!.. which was little different than what they had left in New Brunswick?. For nearly 10 years. Moved to Connecticut in 1935 on advise from one of Arthur's cousins. In that same year, Arthur found employment with Singer Sewing Machine Co. Arthur retired from Singer, age 65, in 1964. Today, 38 years later, he still draws a pension from the remains of Singer Co. In this same time span, 1935-1964, Myrtle worked at several labour intensive jobs. As I remember, a long period of that time was at the laundry in Bridgeport, where Singer was also located. I don't recall the name of the laundry. The work was hard, the hours were long, and the pay was small. Upon Arthur's retirement from Singer in 1964, he took on a part time job at what was termed a
