Obituary of J. Bennett MacAulay

J. Bennett MacAulay was born in Saint John West on December 6, 1925; he was the son of the late William and Cora (Bennett) Macaulay and was the husband of Erma (Crawford) Macaulay.

Ben was well known in the Town of Sussex. He graduated from Saint John High School in 1944. Later graduating from Refrigeration Technology School in 1948 and relocated in Toronto until he established his business in Sussex. Ben was the owner and operator of Ben's Refrigeration and Air Conditioning since 1952. He was a Veteran and served with the RCR Regiment during WWII. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Sussex Branch # 20, a member of L.O.L Admiral Nelson Orange Lodge #124, Former President of Fundy Royal Conservative Party, former member of Town Council and former Mayor of the Town of Sussex, He was President of Bennett and Burns Family Reunions, President of Kennebecasis Salmon Association and a member of the New Brunswick Fish and Game Association. Bennett was a Charter member of the Kings County Historical and Archival Society, former member of the Board of Directors for New Brunswick Museum, former Member of the Advisory Board of the New Brunswick Water Authority, and a Member of the Kings County Naturalist Society.

Mr. J. Bennett MacAulay of Sussex, passed away at the Trillium Health Centre on December 4, 1999 at the age of 73. J. Bennett will be remembered by his two sisters; Rose Mellalieu and her husband William of Ottawa, Mary Oland-Quistgarrd and her husband Preben of East Riverside- Rothesay; four nephews; John Oland and his wife Barbara of Edmonton, Alberta, Christopher Oland and his wife Carolyn of Fredericton; Thomas Oland of Nauwigewauk; Ray Mellalieu and his wife Brenda of Ottawa; two nieces Diane Gooderman of Vancouver, BC, Gwenyth Kozial and her husband Bill of Texas as well as Cousins, great nieces and nephews.

The family will receive relatives and friends at Wallace Funeral Home, 34 Sunnyside Drive, Sussex, (506-433-1176) on Wednesday 7-9 pm Thursday 2-4 & 7-9 pm .

A service celebrating J. Bennett's life will be held from Trinity Anglican Church on Friday, December 10, 1999 at 11:00 am. The interment will take place at Evergreen Memorial Park.
