Obituary of Gordon McEwen

Gordon McEwen was born in Apohaqui on February 20, 1917, he was the son of the late George and Harriett (Armstrong) McEwen. Gordon was a veteran of the Second World War, serving overseas with the Royal Canadian Air Force. Following his discharge in 1945, he worked for Jones Construction Co. in Newfoundland, Frobisher Bay, Iraq and Bolivia for sixteen years. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch # 76, Norton, and he attended the Royal Canadian Legion in St. Stephen. He was also a member of Canam Masonic Lodge, No. 7219, Stephenville, Newfoundland. Gordon was a former member of the Church of Ascension and for twelve years he owned and operated the Scoodic Motel in St. Stephen. Mr. Gordon Beverly McEwen of Ridgewood Veterans' Wing formerly of Apohaqui, passed away at the Saint John Regional Hospital on November 8, 1999 at the age of 82. Gordon will be remembered by his four sisters; Annie Elliott of Vancouver, Reta Perry of Havelock, Marion Mapplebeck and her husband Paul of Saint John, Mrs. Marguerite Boudreau and her husband Paul of Montreal; one nephew; five nieces and also by several cousins. Gordon was predeceased by a brother; Ralph in 1989. The Royal Canadian Legion Branch # 76 will hold a tribute on Wednesday at 6:45 p.m. The family will receive relatives and friends at Wallace Funeral Home, 34 Sunnyside Drive, Sussex, (506-433-1176) on Wednesday 2-4 & 7-9pm . A service celebrating Gordon Beverly's life will be held from Church of Ascension, Apohaqui on Thursday, November 11, 1999 at 3:30 pm.
