Doris Smith was born in Sussex on April 18, 1909, she was the daughter; of the late James and Nellie (McGiver) McKenna and was the wife of the late Donald Ridd Smith. Doris graduated from High School in Sussex, attended Dalhousie University for a year and then went on to graduate from St. Luke's Training School for Nurses in New York City. Doris was a life member of their Alumnae Association. She returned to Saint John, and before her marriage in 1936 did volunteer work for the Red Cross and the Children's Aid Societies twice a week. She was a past member of Val Cartier Chapter I.O.D.E. in Saint John, and then the Royal Chapter on moving to Sussex, and was a former member of the Union Club in Saint John and the Riverside Golf and Country Club. Mrs. Doris H. Smith of Fox Hill, passed away at the Scenic View Special Care Home on October 18, 1999 at the age of 90. Doris will be remembered by her son; Derek and his wife Maris of Dublin, Ireland; two brothers; John McKenna and his wife Doreen of Mississauga, Ontario, James McKenna and his wife Holly of East Riverside, NB; her sister-in-law; Margaret (Peggy) McKenna of Sussex, granddaughter; Kelli Anne Urquhart and her Husband Peter of Montreal; 2 great grandchildren Nicola and Thomas as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. Doris was predeceased by two brothers; J. Louis and William and by two sisters; Olive Salter and Kathleen Newmark. The interment will take place at Fernhill Cemetery. www.wallacefuneralhome.com
