Obituary of John William Holmes

Mr. John William Holmes of Saint John passed away at the Kiwanis Nursing Home on May 26, 2021 at the age of 73. He was born on July 4, 1947 in Sussex, NB; he was the son of the late Jesse and Gladys (Hicks) Holmes.

At the age of 18, John took over the family farm where he worked until 1972 when he went to work as a mechanic with CN Rail.

On October 19, 1974, John married the love of his life, Stella Belyea and together they would build a beautiful family and celebrate their love story for 46 years.

John loved to go for walks, read, listen to music and watch his westerns. He liked to stay busy and tinker with carpentry and loved camping in St. Martins. His biggest passion was spending time with his family. He had so much love for them and looked forward to quality time with his kids and grandkids. He also had a special bond with Brad’s dog Duke.

He will live on in the hearts of his loving wife of 46 years, Stella Holmes of Saint John; his sons: Brian Holmes and his wife Isabelle of Saint John and Bradley Holmes of Dutch Valley; his sisters: Beulah Tugnette of Belleville, Ontario and Helen Hilden of Norton; his sister-in-law, Doris Holmes of Sussex; his grandchildren: Anna Holmes, Samuel Holmes and Vanessa Holmes and Isabelle Brown; as well as several nieces, nephews and extended family members.

Along with his parents, he is predeceased by his siblings: Wendell Holmes, Agnes Linden, Flora Mitchell and Harold Holmes.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Wallace Funeral Home, 34 Sunnyside Drive, Sussex, NB (506-433-1176) from where visitation will be held on Sunday, May 30, 2021 from 3 to 6pm. A celebration of John’s life will be held from Wallace Community Chapel on Monday, May 31, 2021 at 2:00pm Due to Covid-19, please call the funeral home to reserve your seat. website.
