Obituary of Phyllis McKay

Phyllis was born in Hammondvale on June 3, 1929; she was the daughter of the late Robert J. and Lillian (Tayes) Scott and was the wife of the late Willard L. McKay who passed away in 1979. Phyllis' mother taught school in Londonderry but when her brother Jim was seven there was no longer a school so her family moved down to Hammondvale in 1923. Her father passed away March 6, 1929 and Phyllis was born June 3rd, 1929. In September 1934 the family moved to Belleisle creek. Phyllis started her education in a one room school in Pascobac. In order to attend high school she had to come to Sussex and board. Phyllis had to leave school after Grade ten and go to work to help support the family. While working she attended Professional College for Beauticians and graduated in January 1947. Later Phyllis worked for Sussex Cream and Butter and Kings County Memorial Hospital before leaving the workforce to raise her family. Phyllis and Willard made their home at 4 Creek Lane.
