Obituary of WILLIAM HAROLD MUNFORD

MUNFORD, WILLIAM HAROLD: Peacefully at the Sussex Health Centre, May 2, 2007 , William (Bill) Munford, 71, husband of Joan Munford (Day) of Magnolia Ave., Sussex, NB, went to be with his Lord. Besides his wife of 48 yrs, Bill is survived by his five children: daughter Janet Murray (Bill)of Saint John, and sons Bruce (Melody) of Rothesay, Randy (Donna) of Burtts Corner, NB, Todd of Apohaqui , and Glen (Natasha) of Sussex, his sister Wanda Nelson (Don Waddell) of Saint John, 12 Grandchildren: Jeff ,Jason and Chelsea Murray, Joe, Tyler, and Cody Munford, Trevor, Shauna and Nick Munford , Jaska, Moses and Myles Munford, as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. Bill was born in Saint John, NB on Jan. 16, 1936, the only son of the late Cecil and Mabel (King) Munford. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by sisters Frances Hardy, Shirley Banks, and Florence (Toosie) Sheaves. Bill was employed for 39 yrs with Canada Packers (on Thorne Ave. in Saint John, and Sussex Poultry) retiring as Credit Manager of the Sussex Poultry in 1994. He was also employed for many years in the office at Exhibition Park Raceway before moving to Sussex in 1978. Bill grew up on Kennedy St. in Saint John’s North End, where his first job was delivering newspapers for the Telegraph Journal. Bill was a lifelong sports enthusiast, enjoying rugby, track, baseball, softball, bowling, biking, curling and hockey. In his youth, he excelled at rugby and track at Saint John Vocational School, and was known as “The Spider”. He graduated from Voc in 1955 and married the girl next door in June 1958, raising a family of five kids in Forest Hills before moving to Sussex. Bill was an avid softball player, often playing against men 20- 30 yrs younger, until “retiring” from the sport in his mid-50’s. Bill was also a strong candlepin bowler, enjoying the sport for many years. Bill was a devoted Christian who faithfully served the Lord throughout his life. He was active in the Anglican Church, beginning with St. Paul’s in Saint John, as well as St. Mary’s & Saint Bartholomew’s, and ending with Trinity Anglican Church in Sussex, where over the years he served as a choir and vestry member, warden, youth group leader, sexton, and lay reader. Bill, together with his wife Joan, have been members of the Gideons for 26 yrs, where he has served as treasurer for the Kings County camp. He was a volunteer at the Sussex Sharing Club for 20 yrs and was a volunteer reader at the Sussex Elementary School. He was also a past leader with the Boy Scouts of Canada. Bill was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather, who devoted his life to serving his Church and family. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. He was a true example of how someone lived their faith, not just by words, but by their actions. “Well done good and faithful servant!”. Matthew 25:23. The family will receive visitors at the Sussex Select Community Funeral Home, 21 Aiton Road Sussex (506-433-2133) on Saturday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. The funeral service will be held at Trinity Anglican Church, Sussex on Sunday May 6, 2007 at 2:00 PM with Reverend David Barrett officiating. Interment will be at Trinity Cemetery, Sussex Corner. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Gideons, The Sussex Sharing Club, Trinity Church Organ Fund, Parkinson Society or charity of the Donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family.
