Obituary of Gordon F. DeLong

The death of Gordon Fenwick DeLong occurred quietly at home on September 3, 2007 at the age of 85. Born in Hampton a son of the late George and Stella (Fowler) DeLong, Gordon is survived by his wife of 59 years Pearl (McQuinn) DeLong, children; Barbara (Fred) Chestnut of Mt. Hebron, Clifford (Joan) DeLong of Quispamsis, Robert (Cathy) DeLong of Fredericton and Muriel DeLong of Hampton, grandsons Derreck (Lorrie) and Jeffery (Laura) DeLong and great grandchildren Kyle and Rebekah, his sister Mary Powers of Moncton, brothers Myles (Ernestine) of St. Stephen, John (Helen) of Halifax and David (Marilyn) of Medicine Hat, AB, sisters-in-law Shirley DeLong and Sharon DeLong and brother-in- law Burton (Jayne) McQuinn, as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. Gordon was predeceased by brothers William and Donald. Gordon was a carpenter by trade and a Veteran of World War II, having served in France and Holland with the North Shore Regiment. He was a member and Honorary Deacon of Sussex Baptist Church, a member of Sussex Branch #20 Royal Canadian Legion and the Sussex Golden K. The family will receive visitors on Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9PM at the Sussex Select Community Funeral Home, 21 Aiton Road (506-433-2133). The funeral service will be held at the Sussex Baptist Church on Thursday September 6, 2007 at 2:00PM. A Legion Tribute will be held Wednesday at 6:45PM. Interment at Pioneer Cemetery, Penobsquis. Memorials to the Sussex Baptist Church or the charity of the donor’s choice are appreciated.
