Reuben Rankin

Obituary of Reuben Rankin

It is with heavy hearts that the family of Reuben Rankin announce his peaceful passing at home on August 26, 2023 at the age of 71.

Reuben was born in Grosse Île, Les Îles-de-la-Madeleine on October 23, 1951; he was the son of the late Beverly and Margaret (McLean) Rankin.

In 1997, he would attend the Newfoundland Club in Nova Scotia, not knowing that fate would intervene, and he would meet the love of his life, Rachel. They would spend the next 27 years as each others safe space, celebrating their love story.

Reuben was a kind-hearted man with a gentle smile. He loved to meet new people and was always joking and loved to tell yarns of the adventures he had over the years. He especially loved any moment he could spend with his guitar in his hands.

He was a hard-working man, He started at a young age fishing on the Magdalene Islands.  He spent 34 years with the Department of National Defense as a marine engineer and in later years he loved his job and the friendships he had with all of his girls at Kents. He was also a proud ‘Friend of Bill’s’ for 37 years.

He will live on in the hearts of his loving wife, Rachel; his stepchildren: Lacey Reid (Tammy), Berkley Reid (Cheryl), Shawn Reid (Cindy), Deborah Reid, Shannon Cowan (Jeff) and Stephen Power (Deanna); his sister, Gloria Rankin of Les Îles-de-la-Madeleine; his brothers and sisters-in-law: Ken Roul, Margie Edwards (Reg), Gladys Roul, Wally Roul (Cathy), Marion Bonnell (Gary), Glenda Mulrooney, John Roul (Amanda) and Loretta Aitkens (Shawn); as well as many nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great grandchildren, cousins, extended family members and many, many people who loved him.
