Obituary of Maria Betty Marcelet

It is with heavy hearts that the family of the late Maria Betty Marcelet announce her passing on Sunday, February 18, 2024, at Bobby’s Hospice in Saint John, NB. Born in Segovia, Antioquia, Colombia on August 17, 1936, she was the daughter of the late Vicente Antonio and Ana Tilde (Ramirez) Barerra.

 

Betty will live on in the hearts of her daughters: Juliette Marcelet-Blois (Carmen) of Sussex, Jannine Marcelet (David Komulaine) of Fredericton, NB, and Susanna Allan of Mill Brook, NB; her grandchildren: Andrew (Catherine, and their son, Jesse), Ashley (William), Julian (Keysha), Stevan (Madison), Selina (Samuel), and Arianna (Samuel); her sister, Blanca Denis Barrera de Gomez of Medellin, Colombia. Betty is survived by an extended large family in Colombia consisting of many nieces and nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and several cousins; she is also survived by her foster daughter (hija de corazón) Ofelia Ruiz Mesa, and her foster grandchildren and great grandchildren (nietos y bisnietos de corazón). 

 

Apart from her parents, Betty was predeceased by her husband, Rene; Her identical twin Nelly, her oldest sister Lucila, her baby sister Rosalba (Rosalbita), a stillborn brother, her sister, Dolly, and her brother Vicente.

Betty was also predeceased by her brother-in-law, Gustavo; her sister-in-law, Idali; and her beloved niece, Viviana.

 

Her grandchildren knew Betty as “Nana”.

 

Her everlasting love will be cherished by many. Deeply rooted in the warmth and richness of Colombia and with a strong dedication to her Catholic faith, she illuminated everyone’s lives with boundless affection and unwavering kindness.

 

Her legacy of love will forever resonate in their hearts, guiding them with its gentle strength and timeless grace.

 

Arrangements have been entrusted to Wallace Funeral Home, 34 Sunnyside Drive, Sussex, NB (506-433-1176). At the family’s request, all arrangements will be held privately.
