Obituary of Dorena Marlene Mason

It is with heavy hearts that the family of the late Dorena Marlene Mason announce her passing on Monday, February 26, 2024, at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in Sussex, NB on February 13, 1947, she was a daughter of the late Oscar and Iva (Fougere) Fenwick.

Dorena was a devoted wife to her husband of 55 years, John. She was a doting mother to her two children, and her three grandchildren were the treasures of her heart. Family was at the centre of Dorena’s life, and she always made the Mason home a warm and welcoming place where even strangers quickly became friends. She was a person of deep faith which was reflected in her love and devotion to her Lord and her extended church family.

Dorena will live on in the hearts of her husband, John; her children: Matthew Mason (Stephanie) of Head of Millstream, NB, and Cheryl Mason, also of Head of Millstream; her grandchildren: Kaitlyn, Hannah, and James; her brother, Calvin Fenwick (Janet) of Sussex, NB; and her sister, Joyce Thorne, also of Sussex. Dorena is also survived by her many nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents, Dorena was predeceased by her brother, Eric Fenwick; her sisters: Alegra Sharpe and Debbie Finley; her stepmother, Marie Fenwick; her infant daughter, Joanne Marlene; and her mother and father-in-law, Joe and Bernice Mason.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Wallace Funeral Home, 34 Sunnyside Drive, Sussex, NB (506-433-1176) from where a visitation will take place on Friday, March 1 from 3-7pm. A celebration of Dorena’s life will take place from Faith Bible Baptist Church (33 Pine St, Sussex, NB) on Saturday, March 2 at 11:00am with a reception to follow.

Donations in memory of Dorena may be made to the Saint John Regional Hospital MICU or a charity of the donor’s choice. Personal condolences to the family and donations may be made through wallacefuneralhome.com
