Obituary of Joyce Earline Ross

It is with saddened hearts that the family of the late Joyce Earline (Wilkins) Ross announce her passing on Saturday, April 27, 2024, at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in Markhamville, NB on February 18, 1937, she was a daughter of the late Russel and Olive (Wood) Wilkins.

Joyce grew up in Markhamville. Eventually, she became an x-ray technician and radiation therapist at the Saint John General Hospital, where she worked until her children arrived. Joyce and Howard raised their children, Angela and Michael in Quispamsis. A talented musician, Joyce played the keyboard and played with the Saint John Old Tyme Fiddlers. She also served as president of the Maritime Fiddling Association. She enjoyed cooking, knitting, bowling, and loved to travel, regularly travelling across Canada and the USA. She also spent many winters in Florida.

Joyce, will live on in the hearts of her loving husband of 68 years, Howard, of Quispamsis, NB; her daughter, Angela Levesque of Quispamsis, NB; her son, Michael Ross (Brenda) of Quispamsis, NB; her grandchildren: Natalie, Curtis, Adam, Jacqueline, and Christopher; her great grandchildren: Islay, Claire, Liam, Asher, Oakes, Cameron, Willa, Sadie, and Kenadie; and her sister, Joanne Scott (Paul) of Markhamville, NB. Joyce is also survived by her many nieces and nephews, her brother-in-law, Ronald Perkins and her sisters-in-law, Sylvia Pagett, Elda Ross, and Ann Brownfield.

Besides her parents, Joyce was predeceased by her brother, Crandall Wilkins; an infant brother; and her sister, Vondelle Perkins.

A special thank you to the Rocmaura Nursing Home Trinity Court, Dr. Patrick Maloney, and the Palliative Care Unit at the Saint John Regional Hospital for the wonderful care they gave to Joyce.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Wallace Funeral Home, 34 Sunnyside Drive, Sussex, NB (506-433-1176). A celebration of Joyce’s life will take place on Wednesday, May 1 at 2:00pm at the Knox United Church, Markhamville. Interment will follow the service in the Knox United Cemetery, Markhamville.
