Obituary of Richard Doncaster

Mr. Richard 'Dick' Oswald Doncaster, of 1103 Main Street, Sussex Corner, NB passed away at Sussex Health Centre on November 24, 2002. Born in Amherst NS on April 12, 1910, Dick was the son of the late Clement Oswald and Annie V. (Crowell) Doncaster. He was the beloved husband of the late Mary E. (Webster) Doncaster who passed away in 1980, and is survived by his daughter Shirley McShane of Sussex Corner, his son Charles (Chuck) and his wife Margaret of Calgary, 7 grandchildren; Michele McShane and her husband Patrice Gagnon, Anne, Ted and Frank McShane, Kelly Wutzke and her husband Chris, Jody O'Neail and her husband Eugene and Richard Doncaster, 5 great grandchildren; Alex, Lauren, Dilan, Isabelle and Sophie several nieces and nephews. Dick was the last surviving member of his immediate family, he was predeceased by 3 brothers Ken, Ernest, Arden and by 3 sisters Hazel, Florence and Louise. Dick served overseas during World War II in the Canadian Army. He retired in 1971 as a civil servant at Camp Gagetown. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Sussex Branch # 20, a former member of Fownes Lodge F&AM. Dick was former Mayor of the Village of Sussex Corner from 1974-1986. He sat on the Board of Directors for the Sussex Health Centre for several years and was chairperson from 1981- 1984. In earlier years he was actively involved with the Sussex Corner Boy Scouts, Sunday School Superintendent and Coached Sussex Corner Rovers Hockey team. Richard Doncaster Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Wallace Funeral Home, 34 Sunnyside Drive, Sussex, (506-433-1176), where the family will be receiving relatives and friends on Friday 2-4, 7-9 p.m. Zion Lodge F&AM will hold a Masonic Tribute Friday at 6:30 p.m. at the funeral home, followed by a Tribute at 6:45 p.m. by the Royal Canadian Legion Sussex Branch # 20. The Funeral Service will be held from St. John's United Church on Saturday, November 30, 2002 at 11:00 am, with Rev. Gene Fisher officiating. With the interment to follow at Midland Cemetery. Donations made to St. John's United Church, The Sussex Health Centre or to the memorial of the donor's choice would be appreciated by the family.
